Woman Pulled From Lake Michigan Near Belmont Harbor, Listed in Critical Condition

A 29-year-old woman was rescued from Lake Michigan near Belmont Harbor on Chicago’s North Side and taken to hospital in critical condition, according to fire officials.

A woman was pulled from Lake Michigan Sunday afternoon after being reported in distress near Belmont Harbor on Chicago’s North Side, authorities said.

Officials with the Chicago Fire Department said the water rescue occurred around 3:20 p.m. in the 3100 block of North Lake Shore Drive, in the Lakeview area.

Fire department diving crews responded to reports of a woman struggling in the water and were able to locate and remove her from the lake. The woman, identified as 29 years old, was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.

Authorities did not immediately release further details about the circumstances leading up to the incident. An investigation into what caused the emergency was ongoing.

Lake Michigan rescues increase during periods of heavy shoreline activity, and officials regularly remind residents and visitors to follow water safety guidelines, especially near harbors and open lakefront areas.
