Bestselling author Colleen Hoover has revealed she is battling cancer, sharing an emotional and honest update about her treatment journey with fans on social media.
The writer, known for global hits including It Ends With Us, Verity, and Reminders of Him, posted a mirror selfie from a hospital setting on Instagram, wearing a gown and sweatpants, and wrote, “Second to last day of radiation.”
Hoover praised her medical team at Texas Oncology, adding that she hoped her followers would never need their services but strongly recommended them.
While she did not disclose the exact type of cancer, Hoover later provided further clarity in a Facebook post, explaining that genetic testing confirmed the disease was not inherited. She also ruled out HPV and excessive hormone exposure, two common causes linked to certain cancers.
“This means it was more than likely environmental or lifestyle,” Hoover wrote, citing lack of exercise, poor diet, and stress as contributing factors.
Despite maintaining her trademark humor, Hoover acknowledged the reality of lifestyle changes ahead. She joked about disliking vegetables, exercise, and sweating, while admitting science had proven her habits wrong.
Hoover also explained why she kept her diagnosis private for months. She said she waited until after surgery and receiving medical clearance before speaking publicly, choosing to complete most of her treatment away from public attention.
“I’m past it now,” she wrote. “Almost done with radiation, and then 2026 will be a year of learning to treat my body better.”
The update came just one day before the release of her latest thriller, Woman Down, further highlighting the resilience she has shown while balancing health challenges with her writing career.
Hoover remains one of the most successful authors in modern publishing, with multiple film adaptations underway, including Reminders of Him, scheduled for release later this year.
