The Television Academy has revealed the 2025 Emmy nominations, and this year's race is nothing short of a blockbuster. At the top of the leaderboard is Apple TV+’s cerebral thriller Severance, which pulled in an impressive 27 nominations. It's a big win for the streamer and a clear sign that audiences and critics alike are connecting with the show’s bold storytelling and haunting atmosphere.

Hot on its heels is HBO’s The Penguin, earning 24 nominations. Colin Farrell’s gritty transformation as Oz Cobb has turned the Batman spinoff into a standout contender. Stylish, intense, and unapologetically dark, the series is proving that genre television can still grab the industry's top honors.

Right behind are two strong contenders tied with 23 nominations each. The Studio, a sharp and satirical take on the TV industry itself, has quickly earned its place among the elite. It’s a rare example of a new comedy breaking through in a highly competitive field. Alongside it, The White Lotus continues its reign as an Emmy favorite, returning with a third season full of mystery, wealth, and perfectly timed social critique.

The Last of Us also returned strong, picking up 16 nominations. Its emotional second season struck a chord with audiences and maintained the momentum from its breakout first year. Other notable series making waves include Hacks, The Bear, and Andor, all landing double-digit nominations and signaling a diverse and unpredictable awards season.

HBO Max led the charge across all platforms with a record-breaking 142 nominations. Netflix followed with 120, and Apple TV+ held strong at 81. Warner Bros. Television Group topped the studio race with 60 total nods, proving its influence across genres and platforms.

Still, no Emmy announcement is complete without some buzz-worthy snubs. Despite critical acclaim, Squid Game Season 2 was completely shut out. Yellowjackets, Industry, and even parts of The White Lotus cast, including Michelle Monaghan and Patrick Schwarzenegger, were surprisingly absent from key acting categories.

Hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on September 14. It will be preceded by the Creative Arts Emmys on September 6 and 7, with highlights airing September 13 on FXX.

The competition is tight, the surprises are plenty, and with a mix of established hits and fresh voices in the spotlight, the 2025 Emmys are shaping up to be one of the most exciting yet.
