Eva LaRue Opens Up About Terrifying Stalking Ordeal That Lasted More Than a Decade

Eva LaRue reflects on a frightening twelve year stalking ordeal that targeted both her and her young daughter. Her new documentary shares how persistence, new DNA technology and family strength finally brought justice.

Eva LaRue built a successful television career through roles that often centered on criminal investigations, yet real life delivered a far darker storyline of her own. The actress, best known for CSI Miami and All My Children, is now speaking openly about the twelve year stalking nightmare that began in 2007 and left a lasting mark on her life.

LaRue had been working steadily in Hollywood when threatening letters began arriving at her publicist’s office. The messages were graphic, violent and deeply personal. Worse still, the stalker soon shifted his focus to her daughter Kaya, who was only five years old at the time. He located their home, learned the child’s school schedule and even called the school pretending to be her father.

Fearing for their safety, LaRue and her daughter moved multiple times, changed routines and lived with constant anxiety. The threats never followed a pattern. Months would pass quietly, then a new letter would arrive with chilling detail. LaRue describes it as a life where every shadow and every unfamiliar face sparked alarm.

For years investigators were unable to identify the person behind the letters. Technology simply did not exist to match partial DNA evidence from envelope seals to a suspect. That changed in 2018 when forensic genealogy, the same method that helped solve the Golden State Killer case, was applied to her file. A DNA match eventually led authorities to Ohio where they arrested James David Rogers.

Rogers pleaded guilty in 2022 and received a federal sentence, though LaRue has said the punishment felt small compared to the years of fear she and her daughter endured. Despite the emotional difficulty of revisiting the events, LaRue chose to participate in the new Paramount Plus documentary My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story, hoping her experience will highlight the reality of stalking cases and the urgent need for stronger protections.

She also credits the ordeal with strengthening her bond with her daughter. Together they weathered fear, uncertainty and grief, including the sudden passing of Kaya’s father in 2020. LaRue says sharing their story publicly has helped them heal and has given a voice to others living with similar threats.

Her message is clear. Stalking is far more common than many believe, and victims need support, updated investigative tools and greater understanding. The documentary aims to open that conversation and shed light on a crime that often hides in plain sight.
