Sean Diddy Combs has formally asked Netflix to halt the release of its upcoming docuseries, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, alleging that the production includes personal footage that was never authorized for public use. The series is executive-produced by rapper and media entrepreneur Curtis 50 Cent Jackson, a longtime critic of Combs.
According to Combs’ representatives, the footage featured in the trailer was part of a private life-documentation project he has reportedly maintained since his teenage years. His team claims the material was filmed only days before his 2024 arrest and was intended for his own future documentary, not for third-party distribution.
Netflix has denied the allegations. Director Alexandra Stapleton has stated that the production team obtained the footage through legal channels and holds the necessary rights for its use. She added that Combs and his legal team were contacted multiple times for comment and possible participation in the series but did not respond.
Combs, who is currently serving a federal prison sentence following a mixed jury verdict earlier this year, has not yet viewed the docuseries. He is also in the process of appealing his conviction while facing numerous ongoing civil lawsuits, all of which he has denied.
In the cease and desist letter, Combs’ attorneys warned that further legal action could follow if Netflix proceeds with the release. The warning echoes his prior defamation lawsuit against another major media company over a separate documentary.
Meanwhile, 50 Cent has continued to publicly mock Combs on social media, adding fuel to an already high-profile dispute that now sits at the intersection of entertainment, legal rights, and celebrity storytelling.
