More than a year after Blue Bloods ended, the franchise continues through Donnie Wahlberg’s spinoff Boston Blue. Yet behind the scenes, Tom Selleck’s feelings about the show remain a topic of quiet speculation in Hollywood.

According to industry sources, Selleck was not ready to say goodbye to his iconic role as Frank Reagan when Blue Bloods was canceled. He had openly expressed disappointment over the decision and hoped the character might return in some form. Seeing the franchise continue without him has reportedly been difficult.

An insider told Globe Magazine that Selleck feels conflicted watching Boston Blue thrive as a lower budget successor after the original series was ended. While the source claims he supports Wahlberg personally, the emotional weight of the transition has not been easy for him.

Selleck later acknowledged that he cannot play Frank Reagan forever and suggested he is gradually accepting that the chapter has closed. However, he has made it clear that retirement is not in his plans. At 80, he recently changed talent agencies from CAA to UTA, signaling his intention to remain active in the industry.

Meanwhile, CBS has confirmed that Boston Blue will not air a new episode on January 16, 2026. The network has placed the series on hiatus due to scheduling adjustments tied to the upcoming Winter Olympics. The show is now expected to return in late February, allowing CBS to run episodes consistently toward the season finale.

Despite the break, Boston Blue has already been renewed for a second season, giving the network confidence in the show’s long term future. Executives believe the pause will not damage audience momentum.

While there is still no confirmation that Selleck will appear on Boston Blue, Wahlberg has previously said efforts were made to involve him in some capacity. For now, fans can continue revisiting all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods on streaming platforms while waiting for Boston Blue’s return.

The question of whether Frank Reagan will ever step back into the franchise remains unanswered, but Tom Selleck’s career shows no sign of slowing down.
