Breaking News: President Trump Calls on Iranian Protesters, Vows Crackdown on Minnesota Scams
President Donald Trump delivered a pointed and wide-ranging address touching on international unrest, domestic fraud, and what he described as restored merit-based standards in American institutions.
Speaking on the situation in Iran, Trump called on Iranian protesters to continue pushing for change. “To all Iranian patriots, keep protesting, take over your institutions, if possible, and save the name of the killers and the abusers that are abusing you,” he said, adding that those names must be recorded because “they’ll pay a very big price.”
Turning to domestic policy, Trump said his administration is intensifying efforts against what he described as widespread fraud in Minnesota. “In Minnesota we’re cracking down on the Somali scams, ending the brazen and shameless theft of taxpayer dollars,” he said.
The president also injected a rhetorical flourish, noting his comfort speaking off script. “Isn’t it nice to have a president that can go off teleprompter?” he asked supporters.
Trump closed with remarks on recent legal victories, saying the United States has reaffirmed merit-based systems in employment and education. “We won a Supreme Court case that said you hire by merit, you go to college now by merit. Everything’s by merit! Our country became great because of merit,” he said.
The speech quickly drew reaction from both supporters and critics, with commentators highlighting the mix of foreign policy exhortation and domestic law enforcement pledges. The White House did not immediately clarify specific policy actions linked to the remarks.
