Drishyam 3 Nears ₹30 Crore Pre-Sales as Jeethu Joseph Reveals Darker Story

Drishyam 3 is nearing ₹30 crore in advance bookings as director Jeethu Joseph reveals the Mohanlal thriller will focus on Georgekutty’s growing fear and paranoia.

Drishyam 3 Nears ₹30 Crore Pre-Sales as Jeethu Joseph Reveals Darker Story

Drishyam 3 is already rewriting Mollywood box office records before release, while director Jeethu Joseph says the third chapter of the iconic franchise will focus less on twists and more on Georgekutty’s growing fear, paranoia and psychological collapse years after the original crime shook his family.

Starring Mohanlal as Georgekutty, the film has generated massive global anticipation, with advance bookings nearing ₹30 crore worldwide even before opening day. Industry trackers say the film has already become the second biggest Mollywood opener in advance sales history.

Jeethu Joseph Says ‘Drishyam 3’ Is About Fear, Not Just Suspense

In a recent interview, Jeethu Joseph revealed that Drishyam 3 will take a more psychological direction compared to the earlier films.

According to the filmmaker, the story centers on Georgekutty living in constant fear that the truth about the buried crime could finally catch up with him.

“He will spend his whole life expecting the police,” Joseph said while describing the emotional state of the character years after the events of Drishyam 2.

The director added that he never fully viewed Drishyam as a traditional thriller despite the franchise’s reputation.

“I actually believe, then and now, that this is a family drama,” Joseph explained, saying the story has always been about two families trying to protect their loved ones.

Advance Bookings Break Major Records

While critical curiosity around the story continues to grow, the film’s commercial momentum has already exploded across global markets.

According to trade estimates cited in reports, Drishyam 3 has earned approximately ₹28.90 crore in worldwide advance bookings and could cross ₹30–31 crore before release.

That figure has already pushed the film past Patriot in pre-sales and positioned it behind only L2: Empuraan among the biggest Mollywood openers.

The film’s release is expected to become one of the largest Malayalam cinema openings of 2026.

Georgekutty Faces His Biggest Threat Yet

The upcoming installment is expected to revisit unresolved consequences from the earlier films, with Georgekutty and his family reportedly confronting their most dangerous challenge so far.

Returning cast members include:

  • Meena
  • Ansiba Hassan
  • Esther Anil
  • Murali Gopy
  • Siddique
  • Asha Sharath

Joseph hinted that the emotional consequences of Georgekutty’s decisions may now become more important than the crime itself.

Global Success Turned ‘Drishyam’ Into a Cultural Phenomenon

Originally released in 2013, Drishyam evolved from a Malayalam crime drama into one of Indian cinema’s most globally adapted franchises.

The story has been remade in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Sinhala and Chinese adaptations.

Joseph believes the universal appeal comes from the emotional desperation of a father trying to protect his family at any cost.

“He is someone who built his family through hard work and desperately holds onto them,” the director said while explaining Georgekutty’s emotional core.

OTT Release Expected After Theatrical Run

Reports suggest Drishyam 3 is expected to stream on Amazon Prime Video following its theatrical release, likely after a 30 to 35-day window.

If current plans remain unchanged, the film could arrive on streaming platforms by late June or early July 2026.

For now, however, audience focus remains on whether Georgekutty can once again outsmart the law — or whether the fear haunting him for years will finally destroy everything he built.
