Fallout Season 2 has resolved one of the franchise’s longest running mysteries by officially introducing Vault 24, a location first referenced but never seen in Fallout New Vegas.

Vault 24 was originally planned for the 2010 game but removed before release, leaving only a jumpsuit hidden in unused files. For more than a decade, its purpose remained unknown within the Fallout universe.

In the opening episode of Season 2, Lucy MacLean and the Ghoul discover Vault 24 while tracking Hank MacLean on the road to New Vegas. Inside, they find a decayed and abandoned vault filled with disturbing evidence of a failed experiment. Former residents are revealed to have been forcibly subjected to psychological conditioning using advanced neural technology.

The series confirms that Vault 24 functioned as a secret Vault Tec experiment designed to manipulate beliefs through propaganda and brain computer interfaces. The technology shown is later connected to mind control research already introduced earlier in the season, tying Vault 24 directly into the larger narrative.

By making Vault 24 canon, the show revisits unused ideas from Fallout New Vegas while expanding the franchise for both longtime players and new viewers. The reveal reflects the creative approach behind the series, balancing respect for the games with fresh storytelling.

Fallout Season 2 continues to stream exclusively on Prime Video.
