Jake Paul has shared an update on his recovery after suffering a broken jaw during his heavyweight bout against former world champion Anthony Joshua in Miami.
The 28 year old social media personality turned professional boxer posted photos from a hospital bed, confirming that surgery was successful and that doctors installed titanium plates on both sides of his jaw. Paul said some teeth were removed during the procedure and that he is restricted to a liquid diet for at least a week.
The injury occurred during an eight round bout on December 19 at the Kaseya Center, where Joshua stopped Paul in the sixth round after knocking him down four times. Medical staff examined Paul immediately following the fight, and surgery was performed shortly after.
Paul later thanked hospital staff for their care and acknowledged the pain he endured, describing the fight as a tough experience against one of boxing’s elite competitors. He also expressed appreciation for fan support during his recovery.
The bout generated widespread reaction across combat sports, with fighters, analysts, and fans offering mixed responses ranging from criticism to respect for Paul stepping into the ring with a former two time heavyweight champion.
Despite the loss, which marks the second defeat of his professional career and first by knockout, Paul indicated that he plans to recover and return to competition at a lower weight class.
