Leighton Meester has opened up about the importance of vulnerability, self growth and mutual respect in both relationships and professional life.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE Magazine, the Gossip Girl alum said accepting imperfection plays a central role in maintaining strong personal bonds. She explained that relationships work best when both partners remain aware of their own flaws and are willing to keep improving.

Meester said lasting relationships require effort and openness, adding that people must be willing to work on themselves in order for a partnership to succeed.

She also reflected on her experiences in challenging work environments, acknowledging that she has encountered toxic workplace cultures in the entertainment industry. Meester said many people relate to having leaders who do not always offer support or encouragement.

Despite those experiences, she described creative work as something she continues to find meaningful and engaging. Her comments surprised co star Josh Hutcherson, who reacted with disbelief that she had faced such situations in her career.

Meester and Brody are parents to two children and have continued to balance family life with their careers in film and television.
