Trevor Noah returned as host of the Grammy Awards for the sixth and final time, opening the ceremony with jokes aimed at celebrities seated in the audience while reserving his sharpest remarks for Nicki Minaj, who was not present.

“Noah told the crowd that Minaj was still at the White House discussing very important issues,” referencing her recent visit and public praise of President Donald Trump. He followed the comment with a brief Trump impression that drew loud laughter inside Crypto.com Arena.

Despite the moment, Noah largely avoided political commentary during his monologue. He steered clear of immigration debates and other national controversies, even as several artists wore “ICE Out” pins on the red carpet. Most of his humor focused on the night’s performers and nominees rather than current events.

Justin Bieber delivered one of the evening’s most talked about performances, appearing on stage in crystal-covered underwear while singing music from his latest album. The moment drew surprise reactions and became one of the show’s viral highlights.

Kendrick Lamar entered the night with nine nominations and claimed Best Rap Album early in the broadcast. Noah treated Lamar with respect during his remarks, avoiding jokes at his expense while acknowledging his dominant presence at this year’s awards.

Several winners used their acceptance speeches to send messages about unity and immigration. Olivia Dean spoke about her family’s immigrant roots, while Bad Bunny called for compassion and love rather than division. Jelly Roll emphasized that faith should not belong to any political party.

The ceremony featured performances from major artists including Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, Bruno Mars, Tyler, the Creator, and Rosé. Tributes were also paid to late music legends during the in memoriam segment.

Noah’s opening reflected a careful balance between comedy and caution, offering light humor while sidestepping deeper political debate. His comments about Minaj stood out as the boldest moment of the night, underscoring how pop culture and politics continue to intersect at major award shows.
