Prime Video’s hit series Fallout is officially heading to a brand new location for its third season. Showrunners revealed that the story will shift to Colorado, giving fans their first look at a region never before explored in the Fallout franchise’s main games or television storyline.
The announcement was confirmed during a special screening of the Season 2 finale, where creators Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Jonathan Nolan said they wanted to recapture the feeling of discovering a new wasteland. Colorado emerged as that next destination.
Clues were planted throughout the finale. In flashback scenes, Cooper Howard and his wife Barb joke about escaping Los Angeles and starting over in Colorado. The final reveal comes when The Ghoul discovers his wife and daughter are missing from their cryogenic chambers. Instead, he finds a postcard reading, “Greetings from Colorado,” with a handwritten note saying, “Colorado was a good idea.”
The closing moments of Season 2 show The Ghoul heading east, setting up Colorado as the central backdrop for Season 3. The storyline suggests the region could play a major role in the future of the Enclave and its leadership, which has already been teased in earlier episodes.
Season 3 is currently in pre-production, with filming expected to begin in May in California. While much of the production will remain based on existing sets, the narrative focus will shift toward the Rocky Mountain region and its unknown factions, dangers, and survivors.
Amazon previously renewed Fallout for a third season in 2025, and cast members have hinted that the overall story arc could span five or six seasons. A release window has not been announced, but the show is expected to return in late 2027.
