Mumbai, India: Long evening queues outside multiplexes in Mumbai’s Andheri district stretched past ticket counters this weekend as Shahid Kapoor’s O Romeo opened to packed houses, reflecting the early momentum behind the romantic action thriller.
Producers confirmed the film earned about INR 61.3 crore worldwide, approximately $7.4 million, within its first four days in theaters. Domestic India collections contributed INR 46.75 crore, or nearly $5.6 million, while overseas markets added close to INR 15 crore, around $1.8 million.
“Grateful for the steady love and support from audiences everywhere. The journey of O Romeo continues in cinemas,” the production team said in a statement announcing the early box office figures.
Released a day before Valentine’s weekend, the film benefited from strong holiday footfall and heavy advance bookings in several major cities. Cinema operators reported late-night shows being added in select metropolitan theaters to accommodate demand.
The film features Shahid Kapoor in a gritty gangster role inspired by a chapter from Hussain Zaidi’s crime writing, supported by a large ensemble cast that includes Nana Patekar, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Vikrant Massey, Avinash Tiwary, and Farida Jalal. Industry analysts say the emotional crime-romance narrative, combined with Kapoor’s return to an intense action role, helped generate early buzz among younger audiences.
Backed by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, O Romeo is expected to remain in wide theatrical circulation through the coming weeks, with trade observers closely watching whether the strong opening weekend converts into sustained box office momentum.
