COLUMBIA, South Carolina. Cameras are rolling again for Jonathan Majors as the actor begins work on his first film in roughly four years, a move that marks a significant moment in his attempt to rebuild his career.
Production started this week on an untitled action movie backed by The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend. Director Kyle Rankin is helming the project from his own screenplay, with plot details and additional casting still tightly under wraps.
According to early production notes, the film draws inspiration from classic 1980s and 1990s action stories such as Red Dawn and Toy Soldiers, which focused on young protagonists forced to defend against invading forces.
Career reset after legal fallout
Majors’ return comes after a turbulent period. In December 2023, the actor was found guilty of assault and harassment involving his former girlfriend, a case that led to his removal from several high-profile projects, including the Marvel role of Kang.
He was later sentenced to complete a 52 week in person domestic violence intervention program. Since then, the actor has been working to reestablish his footing in the industry.
The new film represents his most concrete step back into production. Majors is also attached to the supernatural revenge thriller Merciless from director Martin Villeneuve, though that project has not yet entered active filming.
Daily Wire backs another comeback
Producers on the new film include Ben Shapiro for The Daily Wire and Dallas Sonnier for Bonfire Legend, alongside Travis Mills, Lillian Campbell, and Sydney Aucreman.
The Daily Wire has previously supported projects featuring actors attempting career rebounds, including Armie Hammer and Gina Carano. Industry observers will be watching closely to see whether Majors’ latest role leads to broader studio opportunities.
For now, the untitled action project remains in early production, with release timing and distribution plans still to be announced.
