CULVER CITY, California. Prime Video has released the first official image from its upcoming God of War live action series, offering fans an early look at Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus.
Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios confirmed that production is now underway on the highly anticipated adaptation of PlayStation’s blockbuster franchise. The project has already secured a two season order, signaling strong confidence from the studio.
The newly released image shows the father and son duo together as their journey begins, closely reflecting the tone of the recent God of War games.
What the series will follow
According to the official synopsis, the story centers on Kratos and his young son Atreus as they set out to spread the ashes of Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother, Faye.
Through their journey, Kratos attempts to teach his son how to become a better god, while Atreus pushes his father to rediscover his humanity. The emotional father son dynamic has been a defining element of the modern game series.

Creative team behind the project
Ronald D. Moore, known for Battlestar Galactica and Outlander, is serving as showrunner, writer and executive producer. Emmy winning director Frederick E.O. Toye has signed on to direct the first two episodes.
The series is being co produced by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.
So the first look marks a major milestone for one of gaming’s most closely watched adaptations as Prime Video continues investing heavily in franchise driven television. With filming now in progress and a two season commitment already in place, the God of War series is shaping up to be one of the platform’s biggest upcoming releases.
