Food and grocery deliveries across several parts of the UAE were disrupted on Sunday as heavy rain and unstable weather conditions prompted delivery platforms to slow or pause operations to protect rider safety.

Delivery riders were seen taking shelter along major highways, including Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, as rainfall intensified. Food delivery platform Talabat issued in-app advisories warning customers of temporary delivery pauses in certain locations, citing safety concerns for its riders.

Deliveroo also cautioned users that fewer restaurants and stores may be available during the adverse weather. The company said delivery times could be longer as it limits service areas to reduce travel distances. Operations are paused entirely in locations where conditions become unsafe, with customers notified directly through the app.

Careem, which offers food delivery alongside ride-hailing services, issued similar notices, advising that orders may take longer than usual due to weather-related disruptions.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology, the UAE is experiencing a period of weather instability expected to continue through the week. Forecasts indicate cloudy skies, intermittent rainfall in coastal and northern regions, and temperatures dropping to as low as 13 degrees Celsius in some areas.

Authorities across multiple emirates issued safety advisories urging motorists to drive cautiously, avoid flooded roads, and stay away from beaches and marine activities due to rough sea conditions. Emergency response teams remain on high alert as residents are advised to follow official guidance until conditions improve.
