KKR Keep IPL 2026 Playoff Hopes Alive After Cameron Green Sinks Mumbai Indians

Kolkata Knight Riders stayed alive in the IPL 2026 playoff race after Cameron Green’s powerplay spell helped defeat Mumbai Indians in a tense chase.

KKR Keep IPL 2026 Playoff Hopes Alive After Cameron Green Sinks Mumbai Indians

Kolkata Knight Riders kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive after a tense victory over Mumbai Indians in a low-scoring thriller powered by a devastating early spell from Cameron Green and another disciplined bowling display from veteran spinner Sunil Narine.

The win marked KKR’s sixth victory in their last seven matches, a remarkable turnaround for a side that had failed to win any of its opening six games this season.

Cameron Green’s Powerplay Spell Changed the Match

Green produced his best bowling figures of the season to dismantle Mumbai’s top order and prevent the five-time champions from building momentum.

Bowling inside the powerplay, Green dismissed South African opener Ryan Rickelton, who entered the match as Mumbai’s leading run scorer this season with 436 runs.

Just three deliveries later, Green removed Naman Dhir for a duck after a successful review confirmed an edge behind the stumps.

The Australian all-rounder eventually finished with figures of 3-23, choking Mumbai’s scoring options during the most important phase of the innings.

Sunil Narine Keeps Pressure On Mumbai

While Green provided breakthroughs, Sunil Narine once again delivered a classic economical spell.

The KKR legend conceded only 13 runs across four overs while taking one wicket, ensuring Mumbai never recovered after the early collapse.

Mumbai eventually managed only 147 runs, a total that looked competitive at times due to KKR’s shaky chase but ultimately proved insufficient.

KKR Survive Nervous Chase

Kolkata’s pursuit of 148 was far from smooth as wickets continued to fall at crucial moments.

Manish Pandey anchored the innings with 45 runs, while West Indies captain Rovman Powell added an important 40 before being dismissed in dramatic fashion by a stunning catch from Corbin Bosch.

The match remained alive deep into the closing overs before KKR finally crossed the line with seven balls remaining and four wickets in hand.

Playoff Race Still Wide Open

Despite the victory, Kolkata’s playoff qualification remains uncertain.

KKR now sit sixth in the table with one league game remaining and trail fourth-placed Rajasthan Royals by one point and Net Run Rate.

Their final league match against Delhi Capitals could decide whether the dramatic comeback story continues.

At the same time, Punjab Kings also remain in the qualification race and must defeat Lucknow Super Giants to keep their own campaign alive.

KKR’s Season Turnaround Becoming One of IPL 2026’s Biggest Stories

After looking completely out of contention earlier in the tournament, KKR’s revival has become one of the defining narratives of IPL 2026.

The side has relied heavily on disciplined bowling rather than explosive batting, consistently dragging itself through pressure situations despite concerns about squad balance and lack of power-hitting depth.

Now, with one match left and playoff hopes still alive, KKR remain firmly in the middle of the IPL’s most intense qualification battle.
