The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has revealed major updates on two new temple projects in the United States, including the official site for the Caldwell Idaho Temple and plans for the Greenville South Carolina Temple.
In Idaho, church officials confirmed that the Caldwell Idaho Temple will be built on a 19.2-acre property located at the southwest corner of West Orchard Avenue and South Florida Avenue in Canyon County. Plans call for an 82,000-square-foot multi-story temple along with a meetinghouse and supporting facilities.
The announcement marks another milestone for Idaho, which already hosts several temples across the state. Church leaders said the new temple will help serve members living in one of Idaho's fastest-growing regions.
Elder Stephen J. Larson said local members are grateful for the decision and emphasized the importance of temples within the faith.
"Temples are sacred and special places of worship," Larson said, adding that the new facility will allow many members to worship and serve closer to home.
Idaho's Growing Church Presence
The Caldwell temple will become the 11th temple in Idaho. Church officials reported that more than 480,000 Latter-day Saints live across the state and participate in roughly 1,300 congregations. Existing or planned temples in Idaho include Boise, Meridian, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, Pocatello, Twin Falls and several other locations.
Greenville Temple Plans Revealed
The church also announced the location and design plans for the Greenville South Carolina Temple. The facility will be built on an 8.8-acre site near the intersection of Independence Boulevard, Ponders Road and Roper Mountain Road in Greenville. Plans call for an 18,850-square-foot single-story temple.
Once completed, it will become South Carolina's second temple, joining the Columbia South Carolina Temple, which was dedicated in 1999. Church data shows nearly 47,000 Latter-day Saints live in South Carolina and worship in approximately 90 congregations statewide.
Church leaders say the new temple projects reflect continued growth and investment in communities where membership has expanded over recent years.
