A Florida lottery winner's attempt to collect a $2,700 prize took an unexpected turn after the receipt required to claim the winnings reportedly disappeared, leading to the arrest of a Walmart cashier on felony theft charges.

According to investigators, the incident began when an elderly customer visited a Walmart convenience store in DeLand, Florida, with a winning lottery ticket worth $2,700. Store employee Tameka Hall allegedly assisted the customer and explained the process for claiming the prize.

Several hours later, however, the customer discovered that the validation receipt needed to collect the winnings was missing. He returned to the store and reported the issue to management, prompting an investigation.

Surveillance Footage Leads to Investigation

Authorities said surveillance footage from the store allegedly showed Hall concealing the lottery receipt before leaving work.

Investigators later recovered the missing document and accused the cashier of attempting to keep control of the prize paperwork associated with the winning ticket.

Hall was subsequently arrested and charged with felony grand theft.

Lottery Prize Sparks Unusual Theft Case

The case has drawn attention because the customer had reportedly played the same lottery numbers regularly and successfully won the prize after years of participation.

While lottery-related disputes occasionally arise, law enforcement officials described the incident as an unusual theft investigation involving a winning lottery claim.

Authorities Continue Case

Officials have not announced whether additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.

The lottery winner was ultimately able to recover the documentation linked to the prize, according to reports.

The case serves as a reminder for lottery players to keep winning tickets and claim receipts secure until prizes are successfully collected.
