Brad Arnold, the founding member and lead singer of rock band 3 Doors Down, has died at the age of 47 following a battle with cancer, the band confirmed in a statement released Saturday.

According to the announcement, Arnold passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife Jennifer and close family members. The band described him as a devoted husband, a generous friend, and a musician whose work created lasting connections with fans around the world.

Arnold revealed in May 2025 that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 clear cell renal cell carcinoma, a form of kidney cancer, forcing the group to cancel its planned summer tour while he underwent treatment.

Born in Escatawpa, Mississippi, Arnold formed 3 Doors Down in the late 1990s with childhood friends. The band rose to global prominence in 2000 with the release of “Kryptonite,” a song Arnold famously wrote as a teenager during a high school class. The track became one of the defining rock hits of the era and helped the group’s debut album The Better Life achieve multi-platinum success.

Over the next decade, the band remained a major presence on rock radio with hits including “When I’m Gone,” “Here Without You,” and “It’s Not My Time.” Arnold’s songwriting style, known for emotional directness and relatable themes, helped the group maintain a strong fan base worldwide.

Beyond music, Arnold was also active in charity work through the Better Life Foundation, an organization created by the band to support children and community programs.

Tributes from fans and fellow musicians quickly spread across social media, remembering Arnold not only for his musical impact but also for his humility, faith, and dedication to family.

His legacy, bandmates said, will continue through the music that defined a generation of rock listeners.
