Los Angeles, California: Rising underground rapper Luci4, best known for his viral track BodyPartz, has died at the age of 23, officials confirmed.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said the artist, whose real name was James Dear, died on February 22. Emergency crews responded to a medical call at a residence around 11:40 a.m. but found him already deceased.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of death, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Family seeks clarity
Family members told media outlets they are searching for answers about what happened in the hours before his death. Relatives said they became concerned after learning his wallet had been emptied and after previously warning him about people in his circle as his popularity grew.
Law enforcement sources indicated officers established a crime scene after arriving at the location. Officials have not publicly stated whether foul play is suspected.
A family member reportedly said, “We believe something happened to him,” reflecting growing concern among relatives.
Rising online fame
Luci4 gained traction in 2021 as part of the internet microgenre known as sigilkore, building a strong following on TikTok and underground music platforms.
His breakout single BodyPartz spread widely on social media and was later certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The young artist had recently signed with Atlantic Records as his profile continued to rise.
