Mukkamalla and Ranjane Power USA to Imposing 196; Netherlands Face Steep Climb at Chepauk

Saiteja Mukkamalla’s masterful 79 and a late-innings blitz from Shubham Ranjane (48*) propelled the USA to a formidable 196/6 against the Netherlands in Chennai.

CHENNAI: In a high-stakes Group A encounter at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium, the United States of America produced a batting masterclass to post a towering 196/6, leaving the Netherlands with a mountain to climb.

Mukkamalla’s Masterful Anchor

With the USA entering the match "bruised but not broken" after recent losses, Saiteja Mukkamalla chose the perfect moment to deliver his best performance on the world stage. Coming in at No. 3 after the early fall of Shayan Jahangir, Mukkamalla played with a level of local confidence that mirrored his time at the CSK Academy.

His 79 off 51 balls was a clinic in risk management; he anchored the innings without ever letting the run rate dip. Whether it was lofting the spinners over cover or pulling the seamers with disdain, Mukkamalla seemed destined for a century before falling in the 17th over to a slower ball from Bas de Leede.

The Ranjane Late-Innings Surge

While Mukkamalla provided the stability, Shubham Ranjane provided the fireworks. Entering a "quicksand" situation after a couple of quick wickets, Ranjane turned the tide back in the USA’s favor with a blistering 48 off just 24 balls*. His assault in the death overs was surgical, punishing anything short and exploiting the short 63-meter side boundaries to push the total toward the 200-mark.

Dutch Discipline Falters

Netherlands captain Scott Edwards opted to bowl first, hoping for early swing, but his attack struggled to maintain pressure. While Bas de Leede (3/37) remained a threat, the rest of the unit felt the heat. Misfields and inconsistent lines allowed the USA to maintain a run rate of nearly 10 per over, turning what looked like a par score into a daunting challenge.

With evening dew expected to make the ball "skid" later tonight, the USA bowlers will need to defend a target that has rarely been chased successfully at Chepauk.
