A new year brought an early milestone for the American breeding industry as Grade 1-winning racehorse Muth welcomed his first foal, a filly born shortly after midnight on January 1 at Gainesway Farm.

The filly arrived at approximately 2:30 a.m. and represents the first offspring of Muth since his retirement to stud. She is out of Marlinspike, a winning daughter of Tapit, and carries a deep female pedigree that traces back to Eclipse Award champions Surfside and Flanders. The filly is also a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Bullet, adding further black-type strength to her lineage.

Muth entered the breeding shed with considerable expectations after an accomplished racing career. Purchased for $2 million at the 2023 OBS March Sale, he went on to earn “Rising Star” status while racing for Zedan Racing. His resume includes Grade 1 victories in the American Pharoah Stakes and the Arkansas Derby, establishing him among the leading colts of his generation.

Now standing at Gainesway, Muth has drawn strong early interest from breeders. He is scheduled to stand the 2026 breeding season at a fee of $30,000, reflecting continued confidence in his commercial and long-term potential.

While it will be several years before his first foals reach the racetrack, the New Year’s Day filly offers an encouraging start to Muth’s second career. Breeders will be watching closely as his initial crop develops, with this early arrival symbolizing the beginning of his legacy as a sire.
