The United States has begun deploying significant naval and air power toward the Middle East, positioning forces closer to Iran as tensions between the two countries intensify.
President Donald Trump confirmed that a large US naval fleet is moving in the direction of Iran, describing the deployment as a precautionary measure. He said the forces were being positioned so the United States would be ready if action became necessary, while stressing that military action was not inevitable.
The deployment comes as Iran faces widespread internal unrest. Human rights groups report that thousands of people have been killed during a nationwide crackdown on protests, with tens of thousands arrested. Independent verification has been difficult due to a prolonged internet shutdown inside Iran and restrictions on journalists.
US officials say the military buildup includes the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and accompanying warships, along with additional air assets being repositioned to the region. A US Navy official confirmed the carrier strike group is currently operating in the Indian Ocean.
Trump also referenced previous warnings to Tehran over executions and nuclear activity, claiming US pressure had already led Iran to halt mass executions. He reiterated that any attempt by Iran to revive its nuclear weapons program would trigger a strong response.
The situation has drawn international attention, with Britain confirming the deployment of fighter jets to the Gulf region for defensive purposes amid rising instability.
While Washington says it remains open to dialogue, officials emphasized that US forces will remain on high alert as developments unfold across the region.
