Goa is witnessing a growing wave of international visitors seeking traditional Indian healing therapies, positioning the state as a rising center for wellness and Ayurveda based tourism.

At the All India Institute of Ayurveda in North Goa, Panchakarma therapy has become a major attraction for foreign patients looking for holistic treatment and rejuvenation. Doctors at the institute say the therapy focuses on detoxification, metabolic balance, immune strengthening and overall physical and mental well being.

Among the international visitors is a 63 year old woman from Russia who reported improvement in long standing conditions including joint pain and vision problems after undergoing Panchakarma therapy. Medical staff said several patients from the United States, United Kingdom, France and other countries are now including Ayurveda treatment as part of their travel plans to India.

Institute officials report that more than 300 foreign patients have received Panchakarma therapy over the past three years, with daily procedures ranging between 100 and 125 sessions. The facility also serves as a research and training center for Ayurvedic medicine and was inaugurated three years ago under India’s Ministry of Ayush.

Doctors said Panchakarma is being used to manage conditions such as diabetes, neurological disorders, arthritis, skin diseases and sleep problems. Patients recovering from strokes and other serious illnesses have also shown signs of improvement when therapy is combined with conventional medical care.

At the same time, national wellness leaders are urging Goa to reshape its global image. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev called for moving away from the state’s reputation as a casino and nightlife destination toward becoming a center for health, wellness and traditional culture.

Speaking at the India International Ayurveda and Wellness Expo and Summit, Ramdev announced plans to establish one of Patanjali’s largest wellness centers in Goa, aimed at attracting visitors from around the world seeking holistic treatment.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also voiced support for transforming the state into a global wellness and medical travel hub. He said new guidelines would be developed to strengthen integrated mental and physical health services through Ayurveda and wellness programs.

Officials added that training programs are being expanded to prepare more therapists and doctors to meet rising demand. The institute currently runs technician and postgraduate courses in Panchakarma, offering hands on clinical experience and professional certification.

With growing international interest and new wellness infrastructure projects underway, Goa is positioning itself as a destination where tourism combines natural beauty with traditional healing and modern healthcare support.
