Tucson, Arizona: Flashing patrol lights illuminated Catalina Foothills streets late Friday as more than a dozen law enforcement vehicles, including SWAT and forensic units, gathered roughly two miles from the home of missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie during a major overnight operation tied to the investigation.

The FBI released a description of a man captured on surveillance footage believed to be connected to the disappearance. Investigators said the individual stands approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, has an average build, and was seen wearing a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker backpack.

Authorities confirmed the search has entered its 13th day, with forensic teams combing brush areas near the residence while investigators analyze new evidence. Officials said DNA recovered from Guthrie’s property does not belong to her or her known associates and is currently undergoing laboratory testing. Several gloves discovered across an area extending nearly 10 miles from the home are also being examined.

Late Friday, officers executed a search warrant at a residence near East Orange Grove Road and North First Avenue while detectives processed a gray Range Rover located in a nearby restaurant parking lot before towing the vehicle for further analysis. Roads surrounding the scene remained closed for nearly four hours before reopening.

A man detained during a nearby traffic stop is being questioned in connection with the warrant, though authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. “Because this is a joint investigation, at the request of the FBI, no additional information is currently available,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement confirming ongoing coordinated operations.

Investigators also urged residents to review home security footage and submit any recordings that may assist the case. The FBI has increased the reward to $100,000 for information leading to Guthrie’s location or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved.

Why this matters now:
The release of a suspect description, the discovery of unidentified DNA, and expanded forensic searches indicate investigators may be entering a critical stage where public tips and new laboratory results could shape the next phase of the investigation.
